Georgia Defensive Driving
Defensive driving means following a set of accepted road rules in a way in which the driver is prepared for any event and adhering to safe practices. These practices include paying attention to both sides of the road when coming upon intersections; following the two second rule and watching the road to predict possible problems. Defensive driving is also basic common sense; indicating before turns or lane changes to ensure other road users are always aware of driver intention, travelling safe distances behind other vehicles and general courtesy.
As of 2007 in the state of Georgia, Joshua’s law has been in effect. The essence of the law is that every driver on Georgia’s roads is to be a defensive driver, by requiring all new road users to complete driver education training. All new drivers must adhere to minimum subscribed on-road hours. The state of Georgia has thus ensured that every person on the road has spent some behind the wheel time with an experienced instructor. Night driving and theory instruction are part of these requirements making new drivers competent in anticipating possible events, responses and the very different circumstances/conditions involved with night driving.
