Driving under the influence (DUI) is a serious offense. Anyone driving with, or under the influence of drugs and any young person driving under the influence of alcohol can be charged with a DUI.  In Georgia, anyone who is found guilty of driving under the influence must successfully complete a state approved DUI or Alcohol Drug Use Risk Reduction Program, undergo clinical evaluation and if recommended, complete a substance abuse treatment program from a Georgia DUI School. All repeat offenders must take the drug abuse treatment program as well; Georgia’s laws clearly specify consequences based on number of offences as follows:

First time offenders

  • Must successfully complete a DUI Risk Reduction Program
  • Incur a fine of between $300 and $1000
  • A jail term which the judge can suspend or probate (excluding a mandatory 24 hours)
  • Community service
  • Clinical evaluation
  • Treatment program if recommended
  • 12 months probation
